Staff Picks That Are Locally Grown or Produced

Everywhere you look at our co-op’s two locations you can find a product that was grown or produced within a few hundred miles, especially in our fresh departments. Here are a few of them that our staff recommends picking up:

Cedar Bee Farm Chicken (Eau Claire Store Only): An Eau Claire staff favorite, this chicken is raised without the use of antibiotics on local supplier Cedar Bee Farm’s land in Mondovi.

Farm Doc Micogreens (Eau Claire Store Only): These nutritious greens are not only grown locally in Strum, but owner Dr. Dan Czelatdko does so in a repurposed shipping container that was partially funded by a 2021 Fund Our Foodshed Grant. Learn more about the project at

Jeremiah’s Bullfrog Fish Farm Trout Spread: This spread, made with locally raised trout from Menomonie, is a cult classic among co-op shoppers. It’s especially tasty with pretzels and crackers or spread onto sandwiches.

ICON Meats Meat Sticks: These sticks are made with unique specialty meats that are raised locally, including bison, venison, and elk. They’re a great snack for on the go.

Marieke Gouda Cheeses: Not only are Marieke and Rolf Penterman’s hand-crafted Gouda cheeses incredibly delicious but they’re also inspired by their homeland of The Netherlands. Schedule a tour of their facility in Thorp to see how they’re made!

Plum Creek Seeds: These heirloom seeds are singlehandedly produced by Kathleen and her husband in Arkansaw. And because they come from plants grown in Wisconsin, their varieties grow well in Midwest soil.

Slippery Hill Farm Lettuces: These fresh, leafy greens are grown using the hydroponic method, which uses a water system instead of soil and allows the farm to produce lettuces year-round no matter the weather.

Together Farms Pork (Eau Claire Store Only): This pork is 100% grass-fed and pasture-raised in Mondovi by the Schneider family. They also don’t use any antibiotics or artificial hormones and host fun nights on the farm where you can enjoy a meal and meet their animals.

Whole Grain Milling Tortilla Chips: One dip of these perfectly salty, crunchy tortilla chips into your favorite dip, and you’ll be hooked. They’re famous for a reason!

Wisconsin Growers Cooperative Squash: Their squash has a delicious texture and is one of the few locally sourced products available year-round.
