Plan Today for Wellness Tomorrow
At the very core of our stated mission at Menomonie Market Food Co-op is that we will be central to a thriving, healthy local community.
Wellness is defined as the state of being in good health, especially as an actively pursued goal. Health is recognized as being more than free from illness. Resilience has also emerged as a key word in 2021 and appears closely related to wellness. The ability to bounce back, pivot, and adapt to stress has proved to be an important skill today. Sleep, nutrition, exercise, relationships, and work can help strengthen our resilience.
When our health or circumstances seem uncertain, I found it is important to focus on what is under our control. Most of the time, for me when I feel stressed, it means to slow down and develop a plan. I like to periodically make lists; a list of healthy meals, a list of ideas for getting more exercise built into the day, a list of people I have been meaning to send a note out to, or a list of books to read that I know will inspire me, are some examples. I recognize that having a framework rather than strict sets of rules or a rigid schedule puts me in a place of peace—a vital part of wellness!
This idea of planning today for wellness tomorrow is a powerful tool. We can start small and simply—most great things do begin this way. Our food coop provides a pleasant and nurturing environment to implement those plans. This week it is the Wellness Sale, but every week we have access to friendly faces in the store, nourishing food, and a common purpose.
