Ask The Radish: Dairy Edition

Throughout the year, we receive questions about our dairy suppliers and the products we carry. These are some of our most popular ones with answers directly from us.

Q: What brands of milk do you carry?

A: The main brands of cow milk that we carry are Crystal Ball Farms, Valley View Farms, Organic Valley, Kalona SuperNatural, a2 Milk Company, and we also stock many dairy-free alternatives from Blue Diamond Almonds, So Delicious Dairy Free, Silk, Califia Farms, and more.

Q: What alternatives to cow milk do you carry?

A: We currently carry almond milk, cashew milk, coconut milk, flax milk, goat milk, hemp milk, oat milk, and soy milk.

Q: Do you carry milk in returnable glass bottles?

A: Yes, we currently stock milk in returnable glass bottles from Crystal Ball Farms in Osceola, Wisconsin.

Q: How does the returnable milk glass bottle program work?

A: When you purchase your first glass bottle of milk from Crystal Ball Farms, a $2 deposit is automatically charged at checkout. When you’ve emptied the bottle and are ready to pick up another one from our store, you then thoroughly clean and bring the bottle back and exchange it for a new one. Note: Returning the bottle caps is not required.

Q: Why is there a deposit required for the glass bottles?

A: This $2 deposit is passed on directly from the farm. It’s required to ensure the cost of their glass milk bottles is covered if they are not ever returned.

Q: What makes our milk different from brands found in other stores?

A: The biggest differentiator between our kinds of milk and others is that most of them are locally-sourced! They also have great flavor compared to national brands.

Q: What options do you carry for those who are lactose-intolerant or vegan?

A: We carry so many dairy-free and vegan alternatives to milk, cheese, ice cream, and more! Find them all in our dairy-free section of our refrigerated cooler at the back right of our store, frozen section, and in our grocery aisles.

Q: How can I support local dairy farms?

A: The best ways to support local dairy farms, especially during these tough times, are to buy their products regularly or stock up when you can, engage with their businesses on social media, tell your friends about their products, and stay informed on dairy farming issues.
