30+ Staff Picks for Adventuring

Warmer weather is coming, which means so are summer adventures! Here are a few products our staff recommends to keep you well-fed and protected from the elements while you’re out in nature.

Try These Staff Picks

Simple Meal Solutions: The meals you’ll eat while exploring the great outdoors will vary based on what you do. Thankfully, we stock lots of options for just about any adventure. If you’re planning to spend a few days at a campsite, for example, our staff enjoys pre-made breakfast sandwiches, scrambled eggs from Amanda’s Eggs with bacon from Deutsch Family Farm, and Health Warrior muffin mugs for breakfast; burgers from Painted Outlaw Ranch, Bilinski’s precooked chicken sausages, or pizza pudgie pies for lunch; meat and veggie tin foil packs, charred sweet corn, Dr. McDougall’s Right Foods Asian Entrees, (new) Charcutnuvo bratwursts, Field Day beans, ground meats, and easy pasta dishes for dinner. All are quick meals that can be made over a fire. If you’re just having a picnic in a park, we like to swing by our Produce Department for pre-cut fruit and then our Deli for cold salads, pre-made sandwiches or wraps, and of course, pita chips and hummus and other snacks.

Snacks: When you’re on the go, you’ll definitely need to refuel your energy at some point between meals. Snacks from our Bulk Department are great for that! Our favorites are pre-packed dried fruits, granolas, trail mixes, nuts, and seeds. We also carry bulk candies, but you might want to skip those if you’re just going on a day trip. Most will melt if you’re going to be outdoors, and sugar’s not the best thing for your body while you’re exercising.

Beverages: You’ll also need to stay hydrated. Of course, bring lots of water for exercise time, and for relaxation time, we like Infinity Beverages canned wines and Zymurgy Brewing Company crowlers.

Food & Drink Storage: Before your trip, you may also need something to store food in. We carry a small selection of food storage options including lunch boxes, reusable food wraps, containers, and bottle bags. And don’t forget the drinks! We love Menomonie Market Food Co-op-branded Hydro Flasks and Kleen Kanteen travel mugs. Find them all in our kitchenware section.

Sun & Bug Protectants: Another rule of adventuring is keeping your skin safe from the elements! We like using Alba Botanica sunscreens because they go on clear and keep your skin safe for hours. Plus, they’re biodegradable, which is better for the environment. For bug bite protection, we like Badger bug sprays because they’re natural. And if you’ve already been bitten, Badger also makes a great bug bite itch relief stick that really works.
