One of the myths that we consistently work to dispel is that Menomonie Market is an exclusive club that you have to be a member of in order to shop. And that if you aren’t a member you will get charged more for the items in your cart. Both of these ideas are completely untrue!

Most of the people who made a membership investment in 2010 cited wanting to support the local economy, health interests, and the member deals as the main reasons for their becoming a member.

Due to the current economic conditions many co-ops nationwide (including ours) are experiencing increases in new members. According to Paul Hazen, president & CEO of the National Cooperative Business Association, “co-ops have begun to recapture the public’s interest in the co-op advantage. As consumers turn away from untrustworthy, opaque and environmentally irresponsible businesses, co-ops have found themselves in a good position to appeal to new members and consumers. Every public option survey that’s been done for decades shows that people would rather do business with a co-op–once they know what it is”.
